Pelican Key Estate
area rises up from the southern coast of St. Maarten. Situated just above the Simpson Bay area, with all its amenities and hustle bustle, Pelican is one of the island’s most desired residential and resort areas. A picturesque and lush hillside neighborhood of villas and condos, escalating out of the sea, Pelican offers some of the most spectacular ocean views and sunsets on the island. On clear days, you can even make out houses and buildings in the distance on St. Maarten’s neighboring islands. Surrounding the Pelican Resort and Marina complex, find entertainment and convenience: from the Hollywood Casino, to the ever-popular Red Piano Bar with live music 7 days a week, to the Peli Deli mini-market, boutiques, spa, dive center, AquaMania water sports center, motor-boat and sail charters, fine Italian dining at the Hollywood Restaurant, to the tantalizing and unique culinary fusions at The Stone.
A short walk or drive down the hill puts you smack in the middle of Simpson Bay, offering all the residential amenities from supermarkets, to banks, to launderers, to doctors’ offices, a movie theater, as well as all the entertainment, shops, spas, salons, restaurants, casinos, water sports, marinas, and nightlife. A five-minute drive leads to both Learning Unlimited and the St. Maarten Montessori School while the Canadian International Academy (CIA) is 10 minutes drive .
The Caribbean Sea wraps itself around the base of Pelican with beaches at Pelican, Flamingo, and La Vista resorts, and finally, the more residential beach at Pelican Key. A quiet and natural beach, Pelican Key is popular for snorkeling and long strolls searching for exotic marine life and shells in the many tidal pools.

At the bottom of Pelican, bordering Simpson Bay, is Kim Sha Beach. Kim Sha is home to the Buccaneer Beach Bar, with its mesmerizing nightly fire-balls (artistically carved old mooring balls that house a contained fire on the sand), and La Bamba Beach Bar, which has hot Latin salsa music and dancing as well as live rock on Sundays. Try Shakti for authentic and delicious Indian cuisine or BelMar for fine dining and wine, both on the Pelican hillside next to Kim Sha. Kim Sha is also the site of St. Maarten’s annual Heineken Regatta finale party, awards ceremony, and concert.
A quick drive through Simpson Bay leads to the largely residential Simpson Bay Beach. Sprawling out in a 3-mile, crescent shaped stretch of white sand, only a few quiet, boutique resorts and two beach bars, including the popular beach bar, restaurant, and lounge, Karakter, dot the beach. During holidays, certain Sundays, and occasional charity volleyball tournaments, parts of the beach can be crowded and lively. Otherwise Simpson Bay Beach is a calm, private spot great for walking, swimming, sunbathing, and relaxing. It is also a popular beach for dog-walkers and runners. Facing south, a clear view of neighboring Saba in the distance looks like an emerald mountain jutting out of the turquoise sea.
